Hi, I’m Caitlin Rother, a New York Times bestselling author of 16 books ranging from true crime to thrillers and memoir. Before I was an author, I was an investigative reporter at daily newspapers for 19 years. I quit the news biz in 2006 to follow my dream of writing books full-time.
I’ve long been a habitual user of Facebook, where I’ve always felt like I could express myself in however many words or characters feels necessary. It’s been a good way to stay in touch with former co-workers and friends who moved away. It’s also served as a support system, a source of companionship during the isolation of COVID, and offered a network of fellow authors and readers who have offered encouragement and friendship.
After the 2016 election I lost a good number of FB friends for political reasons (even though I rarely post about politics). And then after the 2024 election, I felt the engagement drop off significantly, this time from like-minded people who either didn’t want to support Mark Zuckerberg, or withdrew from social media entirely.
So now, sometimes I feel like I’m talking to the same small circle of folks, which is nice, but I miss connecting with a wider swath of people, whether they’re readers, fellow authors, or just folks who enjoy hearing what I have to say from day to day.
For someone who has such a solitary job, social media has been like a friend and companion for me. But it doesn’t really fill that hole anymore, so that’s why I’m here, to find some new people to connect with (and maybe reconnect with those who have left FB and IG) so I don’t feel like I’m yelling into the wind.
I’ve traditionally posted my daily musings on Facebook, so I’m hoping to get into that habit here as well. When I’m promoting a book or three, as I am right now, my postings will often be about that, with the occasional more meaty post that I also will post on my blog. And for the foreseeable future, as I try to build my subscriber base, I will not be charging anything for that.
I’ve got a new true crime book, DOWN TO THE BONE, coming out on June 24 and I’m also launching a new “Katrina & Goode” thriller series in January 2026, starting with HOOKED, so that’s a big focus for me right now. I also had an updated re-release of BODY PARTS come out a few months ago. I’m busy scheduling book talks and signings, media and podcast interviews, and other events to discuss all of these, so I hope you guys will come along for the ride!
It's a good place to write longform for an audience that wants to read it.
